What are Golf Trolleys?
Golf trolleys are special carts that are designed to carry your golf bags and accessories across golf courses, gravel paths and out of the car park. Golf trolleys (sometimes referred to as carts) have been used for hundreds of years in gold and around 50% of golfers will be using one.
The advantages of buying a high quality golf trolley with positive reviews is that you can guarantee it will be well built, lightweight and be able to carry you golf bag secure for you across an 18-hole course.
In the last decade, a new breed of electronic and remote controlled golf trolleys have been developed. These operate the same way as a push-trolley except for they have an engine and motor which mobilises the cart for you. This allows you to control the speed and movement of your cart without having to put as much effort pushing it around the gold course. The best electric trolleys should have no problem going up steep courses or across dense grass.
How Much Should you Spend on a Golf trolley?
Just like anything to do with golf gear, there is a huge selection of golf trolleys on the internet and prices can range anywhere from £20 up to £400 depending on what type of golf trolley, brand name and features you need.
Push Trolleys: You can buy push trolleys such as the light weigh “Golf Locker” trolley for as little as £20. This will do its job in carrying your golf bag for you and make it much easier to carry your clubs across the course. Decent push trolleys should be able to fold-up in the back of your car, have an adjustable height and handles, and importantly they need to be lightweight to reduce the amount of effort required to push the trolley across a course. More expensive push trolleys (such as the ClicGear 3.0 3 Wheel Trolley) will cost more towards £200 and will be made of much better materials and design.
Electric Trolleys: Electric golf trolleys have a broader price span then other types depending on the brand, range, power and battery time of the product. Realistically you’re looking at spending between £300 and £1,000 on a high quality, top brand electric golf trolley such as a Motocaddy or Powakaddy. The massive advantage of electric trolleys is that they have their own motor and rechargeable batteries, which means you don’t have to push your trolley and clubs across the course. This is especially useful for older, more experienced golfers and ladies.
Remote Controlled Trolleys: High tech remote-controlled trolley such as the X5, X7 Lithium and GT300 Remote operate have their own engine, motor and a remote controlled device which allows you to power and control the movement of your trolleys from up to 50 yards away. The downside to remote controlled trolleys is the price, which can range from £300 up to £2,000 depending on which brand you decide to go for.
What Else Matters When buying a Golf Trolley?
Asides from the price, what you should really be looking for is something lightweight, that’s easy to fold up, move around the course and store at home.
It’s also a good idea to make sure that you have the right type of bag for each trolley, and if you’re investing in an electric or remote controlled trolley than you need to make sure you understand how it works (most electric trolleys require recharging after every game).
